The BBC is to significantly reduce plastic use

Following the Blue Planet II series, Tony Hall, Director General of the BBC was left shocked as to the global scale of the issue.

The BBC have said that they will ban the use of single use plastics in their organisation by 2020.

Single use plastics contributes to 40% of the plastic waste being produced and disposed of in the oceans each year.  The growth of take away and a café culture has led to the increase of this particular type of plastic. 

Tony Hall believes that it is everyone's responsibility and that for the company responsible for producing the Blue Planet II series to promote this reduction in plastic use, this will encourage other large corporations and individuals to follow suit.
