The unusual weather event hit several villages in the country; killing five people and injuring more than 150 people.

Winds of a minimum of 136mph were recorded and the tornado destroyed everything in its path. Images have been shared in the news and on social media of buildings flattened, cars overturned and vegetation uprooted. Over 78,000 households and companies were left without power too across the region.

The area affected is in the country's south east, with the South Moravian region being hit. The town of Hodonin in particular was affected, with scores of people being treated at the nearby hospital. The Czech army has been dispatched to the region along with support from Austria and Slovakia.

Whilst the Czech Republic has experienced tornadoes before, this one is the first since 2018 and is the strongest one that the country has ever experienced.
