E-waste plastic is a ticking time bomb

Joanne Parkinson

20% of all e-waste is plastic; an issue that has been ignored as the focus has been on single use plastics such as food packaging. However, with 50 million tonnes of e-waste being produced each year and this amount set to rise, more needs to be done to use recycled plastics in technology.

The amount of e-waste produced globally is on the increase and is expected to reach 110 million tonnes by 2050. All the plastics in it are not recyclable so this is a concern.

An increase in technological infrastructure such as upgrades to 5G and the demand to upgrade technology more frequently is causing a huge increase in e-waste.
