Deforestation in Brazil at the highest rate for a decade

Since 2013, deforestation has been increasing again and in 2017 the Climate Observatory said that 46% of Brazil's carbon dioxide emissions were directly related to deforestation. There are concerns that should this alarming rate of clearance not slow down, that the Amazon will eventually disappear.
Recent changes in political leadership have allowed deforestation, as a result of giving tenants the power to do exactly what they like with their land. Equally, a move to ensure economic development, by developing agribusiness has caused mass clearance too. The changing political structure again in January 2019 looks set to worsen the issue, with the election of a president who favours the economy over the environment.
