Ageing population causing China Crisis
24th August 2016
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that hospitals in China are not capable of coping with the increase in medical problems as a result of China's rapidly ageing population.
The issue is compounded by Chinese patients preferring to visit large city general hospitals for small and minor health problems as opposed to seeing a local or family doctor resulting in huge queues and competition for treatment.
Many Chinese patients distrust local doctors and this, combined with low pay for doctors in local health centres is putting vast amounts of pressure and city centre hospitals.
This presents a huge challenge for the Chinese government who so far have been unable to convert China's huge economic growth into medical facilities in less privileged areas of China
