Attention scarcity describes the finite nature of human focus in a digital age. Since time is limited, platforms compete in a zero-sum game for our "attention budget." To maximize revenue, firms shift from providing helpful utilities to engineering addictive, infinite-feed environments. This creates significant negative externalities, such as cognitive fatigue, while misallocating brilliant human capital toward capturing engagement.
