Greenwashing

Greenwashing refers to the practice of making false or misleading claims about the environmental benefits of a product or service. This can include exaggerating the degree to which a product is environmentally friendly, or making claims that are not supported by scientific evidence.

The term "greenwashing" first appeared in the 1980s to describe the practice of making environmental claims that were not supported by a product's performance or by the company's overall environmental record.

Greenwashing is considered to be a form of advertising deception, because it can be difficult for consumers to distinguish between legitimate green products and those that are falsely advertised as such.
