A fascinating 4 minute journey into the history of steel-making from Panorama…

The 1960’s were a boom period for steel manufacturing in the UK and steel towns like Scunthorpe enjoyed the relative post-War prosperity that demand for steel brought. In this clip, a Panorama reporter takes a tour round Scunthorpe to highlight the rapid economic and social change that the boom brought.

One option for students would be to compare and contrast the 1960’s clip with a much more recent resource on the decline of the Corus steel plant in Scunthorpe.
