EU legislation can be a difficult topic to deliver to a GCSE Business class, but it remains an important element of the new Edexcel specifications.

I recently came across this useful BBC article which got a great discussion going about The Working Time Directive.

This could be used in other ways, depending upon the question(s) posed.

By splitting students into small groups they could be asked to present on:

1) How do workers benefit from EU legislation?
2) What problems do businesses face as a direct result of EU legislation?
3) Is the European Court of Justice right to protect workers in this way?
4) How might workers suffer as a result of this ruling?

Alternatively the article could be used as a launchpad for further research into EU legislation.

It’s good to have an up to date example of how EU legislation affects individuals and businesses.
