Fashion retailer plans to launch home delivery.

Primark has already moved into e-commerce through click-and-collect, but customers currently have to travel to a Primark store to collect their orders. The business has bought a warehouse in Sheffield to help it deliver products directly to customers.

Primark is facing increasing competition from businesses such as Shein and Boohoo, as well as online platforms such as TikTok Shop and Vinted. These businesses offer customers greater convenience, so Primark may be trying to protect its market share as well as increase sales.

The business has experienced weak sales, with hot weather reducing demand for autumn and winter clothing. It has also reduced the prices of hundreds of products.

However, home delivery could increase Primark's costs. The business will have to pay for activities such as packaging, delivery and dealing with returns.

Customers buying clothes online cannot try them on before purchasing, so they may be more likely to return items. This could make it difficult for Primark to make a profit from home delivery while keeping its prices low.

If deliveries are unreliable or customers have problems returning clothes, this could reduce customer satisfaction and impact brand reputation. On the other hand, increased competition between delivery companies has helped reduce delivery costs.
