Don’t try this at home - but watch this expert open up his smartphone to illustrate the use of patents and patent protection…

Each smartphone uses around 10,000 patents, largely linked with the amazing way in which processing, memory and other technologies are embedded in the phone. Patents relating to battery power, user interface and other elements of the product are also fiercely protected and fought over. Great stuff.
