First fully electric vehicle launched by Italian sports car-maker.

Europe's most valuable carmaker has unveiled the Luce, its first fully electric vehicle (EV) and first five-seater.

The launch represents a bold departure from Ferrari's established designs, generating mixed reviews on social media. Shares dropped more than 8% in Milan and over 5% in New York.

Concerns were raised that Ferrari risks diluting the brand image for exclusivity, heritage, and performance. Comparisons have been made with Jaguar's widely criticised electric rebrand.

The Luce uses a Ferrari-engineered electric motor on each wheel, achieving 0-60mph in approximately 2.5 seconds.

The company has made the decision that all components will be manufactured in-house, to protect the vehicle's resale value, a key consideration for buyers of premium goods.

Rivals including Lamborghini and Porsche have reduced their EV ambitions due to weak demand and competition from lower-cost Chinese manufacturers.

Global inflation has significantly reduced demand for luxury goods, contributing to Ferrari's share price falling by more than 30% over the past year.
