Empty Shelves and the Importance of Diversity

Lots of media reaction this week to a decision by a German supermarket (Edeka) - for 24 hours - to remove all non-German produced foods and drinks from their shelves.

The aim was to highlight the importance of diversity and to combat racism. It looked pretty effective to me; we often take for granted the incredible variety of products available to us supplied through complex global supply chains.
