Developing Exam Skills - SERC your way to success

I had a meeting with the Head of Sixth Form at a school in the North-east yesterday to discuss exam and revision strategies. She teaches sociology but told me about this really simple and effective way of getting students to explain, apply, analyse and evaluate. Its called SERC.

SERC stands for:

State your point
Explain your point
Reference to information in the source material
Criticise

I think this would be equally at home in business and would encourage students to evaluate throughout their responses rather than often a rushed bolt-on response at the end.
