What do Kanye West, a Flappy Bird and American footballers have in common?I had no idea either, but it was interesting to have a go. I saw these three news stories this week and they seemed to cover the full gamut from money, sport, culture, fashion, business and (most importantly for the students) trainers.

I asked students to watch and make notes on the 3 stories in the attached PowerPoint (temp_file_Link_the_stories1.pptx). Then, students had to:

• List the many business concepts from the 3 stories
• Explain how and where they were connected
• Rank the importance of the different connections

All stories stimulated excellent debate in their own right, but asking students to analyse the links meant that they delved deeper into the stories and examined them from different perspectives.
