Our two confirmed keynote speakers so far are Professor Laurie Taylor and Professor Lord Tony Giddens

Laurie Taylor

Professor Taylor began his broadcasting career as a regular contributor on Robert Robinson's Stop the Week.

He was educated at St Mary's College, Liverpool, the Rose Bruford College of Drama in Kent, and Birkbeck College, University of London where he obtained his BA. He then went on to do an MA at Leicester University.

His career began with a stint as a librarian, after which he became a professional actor, then an English teacher before joining the Sociology Department of the University of York, where he went on to become Professor of Sociology.

Professor Taylor is a consultant, writes for newspapers and magazines, contributes to television programmes and is an accomplished public speaker. He has one grown-up son and lives in London.

Tony Giddens

Professor Giddens was educated at the University of Hull and the London School of Economics. At the LSE, he wrote a dissertation on 'Sport and Society in Contemporary Britain'. He has taught at the University of Leicester and subsequently at Cambridge, where he was Professor of Sociology. From 1997 to 2003 he was Director of the LSE. He is currently a Life Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. He was made a Life Peer in May 2004. He has honorary degrees from 15 universities. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He was the BBC Reith Lecturer in 1999. His books have been translated into some forty languages. He has sat on the board of various public organisations, including the Institute of Public Policy Research.          

Giddens's impact upon politics has been profound. His advice has been sought by political leaders from Asia, Latin America and Australia, as well as from the US and Europe. He has had a major impact upon the evolution of New Labour in the UK. He took part in the original Blair-Clinton dialogues from 1997 onwards.

Professor Giddens was born in Edmonton, North London. He was the first member of his family to go to college. He remains a dedicated supporter of his local football team, Tottenham Hotspur.

    Adam is an energetic, enthusiastic and passionate teacher of Sociology and Psychology at a Grammar School in Kent. He is a creative and teacher who loves creating innovative ways to teach Sociology and Psychology (often through dance). He is also the Head of PSHE and Citizenship
