Our A Level Economics Grade Booster workshops are designed to provide essential revision support to all A Level Economics students as they complete their preparation for the three terminal papers at the end of their linear A Level course.

About this event

The intensive Grade Booster workshop format is designed to:

  • Refine and sharpen key exam technique for the three A Level Economics papers
  • Build confidence in the essential assessment skills
  • Top-up student knowledge of key Economics data and context
  • Provide a clear focus and structure for students on how to make the most effective use of their remaining revision time for their A level Economics exams in June 2018

The A Level Economics Grade Booster Workshop combines:

  • Four hours of intensive large-group tuition by our experienced A Level Economics presenter team
  • An enlarged workshop booklet containing all the session content, extension activities, guidance on exam-board specific exam technique and other essential revision materials designed for students at the end of their A Level Economics course.

Learning outcomes

The Session Programme for this workshop is outlined below:

Session One: Market Structures

  • Tackle tricky Theory of the Firm MCQs and short answer questions
  • Practise the essential quantitative skills
  • Develop application skills by assessing the market structures of real world examples
  • Learn strategies for handling Theory of the Firm essay questions

Session Two: Labour Markets

  • Make the most of Labour Markets data – learn how to avoid common pitfalls, and how to use the right language when writing about data
  • Practise your microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis skills for this important market – essential for helping you to prepare for the Synoptic Paper 3!
  • Learn how to use real-world examples to improve your answers

Session Three: Financial Markets

  • Gain confidence with the key concepts in this challenging topic through MCQs and short answer questions
  • Analyse the importance of financial markets for the economy – learn how to use the right analytical language and diagrams so that you impress the examiner!
  • Evaluate the impact of the financial crisis – consider different economic perspectives and different countries

Session Four: The Global Economy

  • How to avoid common errors on questions about the global economy – take a close look at the Balance of Payments, exchange rates, and the global pattern of trade
  • Comparing the performance of different economies – practise your data skills and understand how to reach a supported conclusion
  • Learn strategies for maximising your evaluation marks on Global Economy essays

Session 5: Thinking Synoptically

  • How to approach the synoptic nature of Paper 3
  • Using synoptic skills to assess economic development
  • Exam skill review – draw together the key ideas from the day in terms of maximising your performance through exam technique

Course package

Each student place costs just £25 (+VAT) for the day of tuition. This includes a comprehensive workshop resource booklet which also includes follow-up revision materials.

    Geoff is co-founder of tutor2u and highly experienced Economics teacher, examiner and author. Geoff is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.


    Jon Clark


    Jon worked in Further Education for 22 years, teaching primarily vocational business courses and A level Economics. Alongside this he became a Senior Manager, Head of Faculty and a Quality Manager with responsibility for course performance and teaching and learning development. He is now Head of Resources and Innovation at tutor2u with particular responsibility for designing and delivering teacher CPD and student revision workshops in Economics. Jon also develops the tutor2u Powerpoint resources, combining proven teaching strategies with his computer coding skills to produce interactive and engaging activities.

    Radley College

    Teacher of Economics at Abingdon School, Oxfordshire. Former Head of Department at Radley College, Oxfordshire. Experienced examiner and regular contributor at tutor2u’s student exam coaching workshops.

    Penny Brooks

    Experienced Economics and Business teacher, examiner and former HOD. Penny is also a leading contributor to the tutor2u Economics blog, student exam workshops and a significant number of Economics CPD courses.

    Ruth Tarrant


    Experienced teacher of Economics and Politics, formerly HOD at Bedales School. Ruth is also a senior examiner.
