The UK unemployment rate for July to September 2017 was 4.3% – the joint lowest rate since 1975. And the employment rate is also at the highest level since the early 1980s.
But economic inactivity has actually risen in recent months. Just under 9 million people in the UK are of working age but do not have a job or are actively seeking or available to find work.
