Sir Michael Wilshaw will be stepping down as head of Ofsted and is highly likely to be replaced by Amanda Spielman. Whereas Sir Michael has been known as a rather outspoken, and at times controversial character, he had one big thing going for him - plenty of experience (26 years!) on the frontline as a headteacher in London focusing on improving schools in deprived areas. Ms Spielman? The BBC describes her as a "backroom operator" who helped set up the Ark academy chain and has chaired Ofqual.
