Geography blockbusters

Jim Riley

29th May 2015

Yesterday, seismologist Dr Lucy Jones was invited to the premiere of new earthquake blockbuster San Andreas. She then proceeded to tweet all the accuracies and inaccuracies in the realism of the film. Unfortunately there were a lot more seismic inaccuracies than accuracies! However, this got me thinking about other geography blockbusters and how I use them in my teaching. I often use Dante's Peak after teaching volcanoes and get my pupils to act as the expert, critiquing the film for is geographical accuracy. So even if the geography in a film leave a lot to be desired it can still be a useful teaching tool.
