A number of economics teaching colleagues are interested in discovering how many ‘guided learning hours’ your students get during a normal school week / year. According to the exam boards, 180 hours is what they see as ideal. Some teachers have calculated that they get between 115-130 hours, and given that the first AS exam this year is May 17th, and that many students will be off on study leave on May 10th, will there be enough time to adequately teach the specification let alone many of the super enrichment activities that we try to build into lessons?
We would be really interested to gather together some timely evidence on guided learning hours - do we focus only on classroom contact time or do we include independent learning / homeworks in the annual sum? Please do leave a comment below to join the debate!
