Dave Lewis, Food Waste and Elkington's Triple Bottom Line
18th June 2016
What a fantastic example of how to apply Elkington's Triple Bottom Line (Profit, Planet and People) to a real-life business.
Tesco CEO has recently given a speech imploring businesses to do more about the problem of food waste.
Lewis has called on businesses to do more to redistribute their surplus edible food waste to people in need.
Food waste is described as food that passes its sell-by date but is still perfectly good for human consumption.
A comment in his speech could almost have been lifted straight from the our revision video on Elkington's Triple Bottom Line
“Tackling food waste makes sense for business, it will help people and our planet, and it’s also the right thing to do.”
Lewis has taken a lead on the problem of food waste as part of his strategy to boost the CSR credentials of Tesco.
Earlier in 2016 Tesco announced that it would give its leftover food to charities rather than let it be thrown away.
