The Government have revived the idea of distinguishing between the deserving and the undeserving poor. On Newsnight last night, Paul Mason gave a useful and brief overview of the history of this idea, from Mayhew to Beveridge. It’s only a few minutes, but could be very useful if you are doing WPW. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be available as a clip though, so you’d have to locate it by going through the whole prog. Also worth watching is the debate between Michael Heseltine and Ken Loach on the same edition.
