From Thinking Allowed Laurie Taylor talks with an American academic - Philip Smith of Yale University - who has looked into why people are rude in public. Smith seems keen on Durkheim, so that should provide a fair clue as to how he sets about explaining the conditions under which some of us may feel it is OK to be rude in public.
