Quote for the Week

Tied up yesterday, so here’s a quote for the week to get things rolling. I’m feeling a bit cheeky, so here’s something which is a bit difficult - but hey, it’s good to think. It’s from Marshall Berman’s book - All that Is Solid Melts Into Air.
” To be modern is to live a life of paradox and contradiction. It is to be overpowered by the immense bureaucratic organizations that have the power to control and often destroy all communities, values, lives; and yet to be undeterred in our determination to face these forces, to fight to change their world and make it our own.”

So much for value-free sociology!
What differences are there between modern and traditional societies?
