More Cultural Difference

On a bit of a roll with this theme - here’s another example of cultural difference. The point here is not to point the finger at what some people will say are “dreadful and illiberal” customs and laws in other parts of the world (yes, we’ll all have our own views and culturally conditioned values on these matters) merely to show that norms and values vary tremendously. Sociologists have to try and stand back - try to be neutral or at least detached, maybe even scientific if you take a positivist approach on these things.
