How to encourage students to collaborate and share their learning - that has been the underlying theme of several popular new resources on tutor2u this week. These approaches work across all subjects, though the examples give below are for Economics & Business Studies.

Think, Pair, Share

Think Pair Share involves students thinking individually about a concept, then discussing it with the person next to them (pair) and then sharing it with the rest of the class.  Lord Sutch has written about how he used this to teach delayering and has also provided a simple template for you to try the activity with your students.

Using Google Docs

Geoff has provided two examples of how his Year 12 students have taken to using Google Docs to collaborate on written assignments.  Geoff felt that his students quickly got to grips with the idea of using this cloud-based application and will soon be more confident at editing, amending and developing ideas and arguments together as a group.  Here are the two examples:

Geoff has also written a more detail post explaining how to actually set up Google Docs with your students here;

Talking of sharing, we had a great time hosting EntrepreneurLIVE 2010 at Westfield and Salford Quays this week.  It was lovely to see over 1,200 students and teachers listening to and questioning our super speaker panel.

We’ve provided details of how you and your colleagues and students can continue to keep in touch with the likes on Adam King, Emma Walker, Rachel Bridge, Shaa Wasmund and Neil Westwood on Twitter.  Here is the link if you would like to do this.

Jeff and Peter from the Grillstream team have also agreed to make available their superb presentation on innovation & patents - which should be on the Business Studies blog later this week.
