tutor2u grows by 77% in September 2010

tutor2u, a leading provider of e-learning resources and training events for secondary education, has recorded further growth in its online services. During September 2010, the number of unique visitor sessions to tutor2u’s main website (www.tutor2u.net) rose to 1.28 million, up 76.7% on September 2009.

Social media sources were a key part of the increased website traffic.  Visitors from Facebook.com increased by 397.9% as a result of the launch of tutor2u’s new Facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/tutor2u). By the end of September 2010, over 1,500 users had joined the Facebook page which was launched in late August. Traffic sourced from Twitter increased by 167.1%

The main tutor2u website (www.tutor2u.net) recorded a 68.5% increase in user traffic during August 2010.  Traditionally the quietest period of the academic year, unique user visits to tutor2u increased to 707,680 in August 2010 compared with 420,020 in August 2009.  Direct traffic increased from 9.2% to 10.0% and traffic from referring sites rose from 8.1% in August 2009 to 11.0%.

The UK continued to be the top country source for site visitors, followed by the USA, India, Australia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore.

I have developed a short presentation on aspects of the open web of learning and the opportunities it creates for teachers in the UK and beyond to fully embrace the web as a platform for collaborative teaching and learning. Many of the examples and ideas were generated by discussions with and presentations given by fellow delegates at the recent Australian MoodleMoot.
