There’s a great piece in this week’s Economist which looks ahead to the 2010 election.
If you weren’t aware of this, Americans go to the polls half way through a presidential cycle where the whole of the House is up for grabs, and a third of the Senate.
Many commentators are predicting a repeat of the 1994 elections when Clinton had to recalibrate his presidency after the Democrats ceded control of Congress to the Republicans. Quite whether Obama will face such strong opposition in Congress as Clinton did (a battle over the budget led to the shutdown of the federal government) is anyone’s guess. But as the Chinese say, may you live in interesting times.
