If you are following the UK Issues route then you will be familiar with the need to provide up-to-date material in order to reach the top end of the mark scheme
On the BBC website I have come across an excellent summary guide to changes under Gordon Brown in the field of education policy.
The article flags up a number of changes:
A 10-year Children’s Plan
An increase in the school leaving age
Tougher measures for ‘failing schools’
The creation of two education departments
More targeted interventions for pupils most in need
Changes to testing to it occurs when pupils are ready
Preference for Diplomas over A levels
But it also argues that more could and should have been of the shift in direction after Tony Blair, saying that much of the Brown agenda ‘appears to have a seamless continuity from Blair to Brown in education reform’.
So that if there really has been a change in policy then Brown and his ministerial team need to make more of it since his time is running out before the next election. And if voters feel there has been no change, then they may look to the Tories to provide fresh impetus.
