With just a week to go before the Easter holidays (in this part of the world anyway), May 2011 candidates will be busy preparing for their final IB exams.  Here’s this week’s ‘top tip’ for the B&M exams courtesy of Brett Hillman and Fiona Charnley from Australia…

The DEAD and DEADER Principles

Several years ago, two Australian colleagues (Brett Hillman and Fiona Charnley) from the Queensland Academies SMT in Australia passed on a top tip to me during an IB Workshop in Hong Kong: the DEAD and DEADER principles.  In order to gain a Level 6, students have to:

Define
Explain / give examples
Advantages
Disadvantages

Then, in order to gain Level 7 they will need to demonstrate two more skills:

Define
Explain / give examples
Advantages
Disadvantages
Evaluate
Recommendations

I particularly like the DEADER acronym as the ‘Recommendations’ reminds us that Business and Management is about problem-solving and decision-making in business organisations.

On another note, I am delighted that Fiona Charnley will be joining us at Sha Tin College, Hong Kong in August 2011.

Good luck with the revision!
