This is an unusual activity that I ‘stole’ from a programme I was watching. I can’t remember what it was, but every audience member had a number and at the end of the show a number was called and the audience member was asked a question, receiving a prize if they got it right.

So, how can this be used in the classroom. I bought a pack of gold envelopes and inside an envelope I wrote a question based on the topic covered in that lesson. I stuck the envelope under a students chair (thus making this activity brilliant for differentiation) before the lesson commenced (mind that chewing gum!).

At the end of the lesson I asked the students to check under their chairs for the golden envelope. All the student needed to do was answer the question and I gave a small prize.

This needs to be used sparingly as the next lesson, all my students checked under their chairs, so I wouldnt do this more than once a month. Also, I only use it after my plenary given that it only targets one student.

My students like it, yours might to. To find out, you will need to Give it a Go!
