Connectives chain story

Following on from the ideas from the BUSS3 conference about building connectives (see Graham’s blog on connectives) I tried to get my students to work together to produce a chunky paragraph in what they described as a version of consequences.
I split my class into groups and then each group had to produce a chain story. Each student writes a sentence before passing it on to the next student. I set the rule that each sentence had to end with a connective for the next person to pick up. Group answers can then be compared.
A simple idea targeting the skill they often find difficult to develop. I don’t think it solves the problem of writing chunky paragraphs but it is a lively way to stimulate some discussion about connectives and the logical steps of analysis, so why not give it a go?
