Breakfast meetings are common place in the business world for networking etc and now they can be coming to a clssroom near you!
Last year I introduced a Y13 Business Breakfast for my Y13 students. It was (is) a simple concept which I found worked for my students which they really enjoyed and got alot out of it. It was also mentined in last nights ukedchat session on twitter (#ukedchat Thursdays 8-9pm on Twitter).
Each student is responsible for bringing to the meeting (yes we call them meetings/groups/chats/sessions) an article from the previous wekk relaed to Business and they have to share this with the rest of the group. Depending upon numbers they all mght share or for a large class they will be chosen, chose themeleves). This is done over tea, coffee and pasteries and I found they get the opportunity to digest the business stories (and the pasteries) of the week in a less formal environment and they take more in. For large groups I let them mingle with each other to replicate the newtworking aspect of such business meetings.
Then some feedback to the rest of use. Rota devised for the cakes and this worked too!
Give it a try, I use it as the privalge for Y13 but could work with other years with some modification. Now trying it with my Y13 ICT group and they are really looking forward to the thaught of ICT Breakfast! A new name however may need to be created.
