Super Starter Sunday - Play your cards right

Sunday, June 21, 2009
by Amy Chapman

This might take a little preparation but will get your students thinking at the beginning of the lesson and if used regularly may encourage them to keep up to date with economic figures.

Using A4 card write the following, one per card, in big letters:

ILO
Claimant Count
CPI
RPI
£1 = $?
Economic growth
Bank of England base rate
Average house price increase

The above are ideas which could be added to. You may want to laminate these cards so that on the other side you write the answer (this allows you to reuse the cards over time as these figures change).
Arrange 8 students in a line with a card each. Students in the audience must then decide whether the figure is higher or lower than the previous one.
