Question - would you opt for a cheaper ticket on a plane if it meant you didn’t get a seat? I don’t think I would! Well one airline in China is considering submitting plans to the aviation regulator to allow some passengers to buy standing tickets.
This article is actually quite interesting.
By offering standing seats, which still have seat belts, the company can reduce their costs and offer lower prices to their customers. Their biggest problem has been a surge in demand and because their supply is perfectly inelastic, due to the time it takes to produce a plane, they cannot meet this extra demand in the short term.
It could also turn into a discussion about competition.
