UB40 on unemployment

Unemployment figures released yesterday show a further increase in unemployment to 7.8%. The data below shows that unemployment is at its highest since 1995.

This video is great, the band UB40 compare this recession with 1981. For those of us who don’t know who UB40 are, they formed in 1979 and chose the name UB40, which stood for Unemployment Benefit form 40; a document issued to people claiming unemployment benefit. Their first album was named “Signing Off” because they were all stopping claiming unemployment benefit. Their 1980 single ‘1 in 10’ was a reference to the number unemployed at the time.
