The sales of Christmas cards have been falling over the last 5 years. It is estimated that this year 141 million fewer Christmas cards will be sent compared to 5 years ago.

So why has demand for cards fallen so much. Well there are several reasons for this. Firstly the internet is being used more for communication, in particular facebook and twitter. Also people cannot be bothered with the hassle of writing and sending cards alongside the increasing price of stamps. Finally the economic situation we find ourselves in has led people to try to save money by not buying things like Christmas cards. All of this has led the demand curve for Christmas cards to shift to the left.
