Our Moodle course for subscribing schools and colleges becomes available from today (1st September).

We have made some changes to the structure of our Economics VLE study courses for this year. Each school will now have their own unique course comprising resources for AS and A2 micro and macroeconomics. A directory of quiz questions and study notes are available in each together with some initial recommendations for dynamic content from economics blogs, You Tube (and other audiovisual sources), Twitter and RSS news feeds from the BBC and quality newspapers.

But the essence of a Moodle is the opportunity for teachers to experiment and enrich teaching and learning by getting students to create their own content either individually or in collaborative activities.

So my hope is that schools and colleges coming on board this year will use their own Moodle space to try things out – in using glossaries, quizzes, discussion forums, databases and different types of assignment.  I will be available to offer support and ideas in an administrative role and I am really keen to see how colleagues are finding different ways to use this highly flexible learning space.

The exciting news is that the arrival of Moodle 2.0 is imminent bringing with it a hugely extended range of activities and opportunities for embedding Moodle study courses with different social media. We expect Moodle 2.0 to be rolled out sometime this autumn and we will be moving to it as soon as possible – courses created and developed now will move smoothly to the new Moodle2.0.

I will be blogging on a regular basis about how my own Moodle course is evolving and expanding as the year progresses.

Colleagues who would like to get involved this year can order a Moodle course using this online form:

Once I receive details of student names and their specific courses I create a new Moodle course for that school and then assign students into their chosen groups with each teacher have editing rights. So schools will only see the Moodle course that they have been enrolled for.

Happy Moodling!
