Statistician Nic Marks from the Centre for Economic Well-Being/ New Economics Foudnation asks why we measure a nation’s success by its productivity instead of by the happiness and well-being of its people.

In this newly released TED talk he introduces the Happy Planet Index, which tracks national well-being against resource use and he flags up the success of Costa Rica in achieving happiness without costing the earth! In Costa Rica, 99% of their energy needs are met from renewable resources.
