Head of Economics and Business Studies – Bristol Grammar School

We are looking to recruit graduates with the appropriate qualifications for the post of Head of Economics and Business Studies at Bristol Grammar School from September 2012.

The post is likely to suit an experienced teacher who possesses the vision and leadership to nurture and develop the work of this lively department.

A secure grasp of developments in the teaching of Economics and Business Studies is a pre-requisite as is the ability to inspire both pupils and colleagues with an enthusiasm and clear sense of purpose.

The department currently consists of three subject specialists.

The School currently offers both Economics and Business Studies as ‘A’ level subjects in the Sixth Form, with excellent results consistently achieved by students in both subjects. In 2010 , 95% of ‘A’ level Economists achieved A* - B grades.

GCSE Business Studies is also delivered by the department to Years 10 and 11, following the current AQA Business Studies 4133 specification, where it is established as a popular optional subject, with around 35 pupils in each year.

The department organises a variety of co-curricular activities including: a recent trip to the Royal Economics Society lecture in London; hosting the 2009 regional Economic Society Lecture given by Sir Partha Dasgupta; entering various national competitions such as the Student Investor Challenge and Make Your Mark challenge.

The successful applicant will be a highly skilled and competent teacher who is energetic and totally committed to the ethos of the School and department.

The person appointed will be expected to offer a specialist background in Economics and/or Business Studies; demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding of a highly competent teacher and contribute fully to the continuing development of the subjects within the School.

Bristol Grammar School has its own salary scale.
