Submitting your essay for the RES competition

A steady flow of essays is already arriving as students gear up to meet the RES Economics essay competition deadline on the 12th of May. There are plenty of interesting titles and ideas being put under the microscope!

A quick word on formatting your answers if you are planning to enter! It is really important that your answer is formatted in a clear way. Please use neutral fonts of at least 11/12pt font size. Remember too to use paragraph breaks so that the reader can focus on the arguments you are developing in each section rather than having to wade through one big mass of text.

A really important point is to include a bibliography at the end which cites the reading you have done in preparation for the essay. Please avoid just a simple listing of web site addresses. the judges want to know the title of the article, the author’s name(s) and also where the article was published + the date. Where possible, avoid copious references to web sites such as Wikipedia. A good essay will have ventured beyond web sites and tried to unearth some ideas drawn from published work in magazines, books and other articles. We really are keen that you take some steps into the economics literature - indeed you may find that this gives you a real thrill to move well away from your normal school work!

We are happy to answer questions on the competition in this section of our blog. Just fire away!

Good luck and remember that deadline!

Hi,

I will be sending my entry from overseas.  I gather it must be posted by the 12 May 2008.  Is that correct?
