I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie, which is finally released here in the UK…
Margin call:
What is a margin call? You would receive a margin call from a broker if one or more of the securities you had bought (with borrowed money) decreased in value past a certain point. You would be forced either to deposit more money in the account or to sell off some of your assets.
A gripping fictionalised account of the collapse of the American banking industry, featuring an extraordinarily stellar cast (Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Stanley Tucci, Paul Bettany, Zachary Quinto, Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley), Margin Call, which reaches British screens on Friday, is a Wall Street for our times.
Set within a 36-hour time frame and shot mostly within the claustrophobic glass walls of a trading floor (the abandoned offices of a now defunct hedge fund office in lower Manhattan) the film documents the exact moment an investment bank realises “the jig is up”; that they are staring into an abyss of financial ruin.
