Chart of the Day: UK Shop Prices
Recommend on Google+

There are few signs so far that the fall in the UK exchange rate against the Euro and accelerating inflation in costs and prices in China are yet showing through in the prices we pay for non-food items in the shops.
The UK Shop Price index is produced by the British Retail Consortium and tracks the prices we pay at retail level for food and non-food items. Our chart shows the divergence in prices for the two categories with the cost of food purchases accelerating in the second half of 2007. But we are still seeing significant price deflation in electrical items and clothing.
