Fixed-price retailing takes off in the UK

Another excellent piece on the changing nature of UK retailing - this time in the Independent - charts the rise of “fixed-price retailing"…

The fixed price in question is £1.  The product you buy might be a back of potatoes, some detergent, t-shirt or maybe even a meal from McDonalds.  However the price you pay is the same - £1.

We reported earlier in the Business Studies blog about the rapid rise of Poundland.  Now it looks like some of the UK’s leading retailers are attempting to imitate the fixed-price format that seems to be one of the few high growth retail segments in the recession.
