Edibility and Danger - An Exercise in Market Mapping

Here is a left-field approach to illustrating the concept of perceptual mapping (Edexcel call it Market Mapping)…

This chart analysis from The Times attempts to illustrate how a variety of products and items can be positioned in terms of two axes:
- Unedible / Edible
- Toxic / Pleasant

Students could certainly question the positioning of some of the items on the chart.  For example, is coffee really almost as unpleasant as vomit?  They could also be challenged to come up with some alternative items that could be positioned at the extremes of the four quadrants
