A small Staffordshire brewery may have a boost to its sales of one of its beers after a Labour MP Kate Green called for, and got a ban on sales of Slater’s Top Totty.

MPs appear to be able to promote local beers in the Commons’ Bars, and the Tory MP for Stafford Jeremy Lefroy announced that he had arranged with Slater’s of Stafford to supply the House of Commons Bars with Top Totty Beer.

The beer Top Totty has a crude (as in poorly executed) drawing of a young women in a bikini, with Bunny Ears, but Kate Green, the Labour Equalities Spokeswoman appeared to believe that this is unacceptable. By 1.30 today, the beer was removed from sale.Funnily enough, the notorious Guido Fawkes blog and the newspaper the media had picked up the story very quickly.

Slater’s Top Totty was the fifth trending tweet on Twitter UK as I type.  One tweet read “It costs $120K to sponsor your brand as a Top Trend on Twitter.Top Totty managed it today for $0. Good work MPs!.

Will the firm be able to cope with increased demand? One for the operations managers to think about. Perhaps the staff at Slater’s will be raising a glass to the unexpected boost to interest in their beers.Sometimes political intervention can have some positive effects.
