The Shape of Things to Come - V, W U or L?

Many thanks to Alison Elmes for sharing this experience in the classroom last week…
Alison writes:
“I saw a good clip on the BBC News yesterday - Simon Jack was interviewing an Economics Fellow who was explaining the different descriptions of the types of recession, using the letters: V, W, U and L.
I used it as a starter with my new A2 class today, beginning with just the letters on their own and asking what the significance is. Of course, they had no idea so I told them it had something to do with what type of recession we might be experiencing. On bright spark suddenly said “Very bad, Worse, Unbelievable and Let’s not even go there”. I told him that his guess was not right, but the description was spot on, so I have added to my PPT and attached it here for use by anyone who thinks it might be relevant.”
