For many of us, the contact lens is a piece of slippery translucent material which, when finally placed in the eye, enables us to move around without bumping into things.  A simple product with just one use?  Think again…

This fascinating video from The Economist describes the amazingly innovative uses to which contact lenses are now being put.  Lots of great examples - biological sensors, health monitoring, dispensing of drugs directly onto the surface of the eye.
