The Sunday Times is a wonderful resource for AS Business students looking at business start-ups, and yesterdays paper was no exception.  It featured a case study about a woman who chose the franchise option as the source of an idea for her new business…

The article tells the story of Garielle Lixton and her Water Babies franchises. Lots of great materials in there for AS Business.

We’ve also put together a teacher presentation on franchises as part of our AQA AS Unit 1 Presentation Pack.  The franchise presentation is streamed here and can also be bought as part of the total teacher presentation package here.

Questions

What are the advantages of buying a franchise?

Why is franchising a popular way of starting up in business?

Why is it easier to obtain finance from a bank when buying a franchise compared to other start ups?

Why might franchising not suit everyone?
